Every spring, the Maltese countryside erupts in gunfire as locals hunt migratory bird species. While a war on the practice is waged inside the courts, foreign conservationists meet them on their own land. Set against the urban infrastructure and crumbling limestone of the most densely populated nation in Europe, “Maleth, Meaning Shelter” is a survey of idiosyncrasy and an interrogation of futility within this atmosphere of polarized cultural contention, all as traveling birds attempt to advance towards their breeding grounds in mainland Europe.
