Life of Mohéli

Life of Mohéli is een documentaire over de mensen van het Comorese eiland Mohéli (Oost-Afrika) en de manier waarop zij met de natuur samenleven.

Een reis door de ecosystemen op en om dit onbekende eiland, waarbij we de lokale bevolking ontmoeten, hun relatie met de natuur onderzoeken en de problemen waarmee ze te maken hebben blootleggen. Van waterverlies, tot vervuiling, ontbossing en overbevissing.

De problemen die deze gemeenschappen moeten aanpakken zijn ernstig, maar er zijn oplossingen waarmee ze de balans kunnen herstellen. Dankzij een combinatie van lokale kennis en wetenschappelijk onderzoek worden nieuwe manieren bedacht om mariene ecosystemen te helpen herstellen en tegelijkertijd de lokale gemeenschappen te ondersteunen.

Life of Mohéli, a documentary about the people of the Comorian island Mohéli (eastern Africa) and their coexistence with the natural world.

A journey through the terrestrial and marine ecosystems of this unknown island, on which we encounter local people, explore their relation with nature and expose the vital problems they are facing. From water loss, pollution, deforestation to overfishing. Problems these communities have to tackle are serious – however there are solutions with which they can restore the balance. Thanks to the combination of local knowledge and french scientists research, new ways to help restore and preserve local marine ecosystems while sustaining the local communities are being discussed.
